Final Fantasy X
Veil of light, ward wizardly might!
Quote by: Yuna, when casting Shell
Sphere List
Refer to the following page to learn everything you need to know about the Spheres you'll need for using the Sphere Grid. First,
let's start with a table that will explain what every Sphere is and does.
All Spheres
You win Spheres by defeating enemies, and you can steal or bribe the rarer ones from certain fiends. Use Spheres to activate nodes on the Sphere Grid, allowing
characters to raise their attributes and learn new abilities. Refer to the Sphere Grid section for more info on the Spheres and
using the Sphere Grid.

Explanation of the marks on the image
| 1. Help Display |
The Help Display gives you useful and important information about the currently selected Node. In this case, the Ability Node 'Cheer' is
selected and just learned, so the help display shows you 'Teaches the Ability Cheer'. |
| 2. Sphere Level |
The S. Lvl indicated the number of steps you can still take on the Sphere Grid. In this case, the Sphere Level is 3, so you can take 3 steps
ahead on the Sphere Grid. Remember that taking a step to a Node you've never been on takes one Sphere Level and if you go back to a Node you’ve already visited,
you can go back 4 steps at a time. |
| 3. Current Position |
This shows the Node where your character is at the moment. You also see the name of the character next to that Node. |
| 4. Current Character |
This is the character you're currently viewing the Sphere Grid of, in this case it's Tidus. |
| 5. Status Window |
If you press some
windows will pop up, showing you all the statistics of the currently selected character, Tidus. Just above this, the option menu will come. |
| 6. Selected Node |
With the directional buttons or the left analog stick, you can move around the Sphere Grid. You then get the options to move to that Node
(if you have enough Spheres) or activate the Nodes nearby. In this case, the Node 'Cheer' is selected. |
Spheres and Nodes
You'll need Spheres to activate the Nodes as you come across them, even if they've already been activated by a different character. The increase increments will
remain the same. However, later in the game, you can use Clear Spheres to clear the Node and refill the Node with a more powerful Node.
Example: You have already activated an Accuracy +2 Node. Later on, you use a Clear Sphere on that Node and the Node becomes an empty Node. All characters who have
activated that Node will loose 2 Accuracy Points. However, if you then use an Accuracy Sphere and change the empty Node into Accuracy Node +4 and activate that Node,
your Accuracy will raise with 4 points. So, eventually, you raised your Accuracy with 2 points. This means if your Accuracy was 110 before the changes, you cleared
the Node and the Accuracy became 108 and after you turned the Node into an Accuracy +4 Node and activated it, your Accuracy became 112. You've raised your Accuracy 2
points from the previous Accuracy level.
- Red Spheres are the most common kind. They are used to activate the available nodes on the grid.
- Lock Spheres are dark gray and come in four levels, which can open a lock of the corresponding level only. For example, a Lvl. 2 Lock Sphere can unlock a
Lvl. 2 Lock Node, but not a Lvl. 1, 3, or 4.
- Blue spheres are used to fill empty nodes with stat nodes.
- Yellow spheres are used to activate ability nodes that have been activated by at least one other character. Note that you do not have to be
adjacent to a node to activate it with this type of sphere.
- Light blue spheres can teleport characters around the sphere grid.
- Clear spheres are aqua and can only be obtained after the player has captured 5 of every monster in the game, thereafter they can be bought from the
Monster Arena trainer. They will clear any stat node, so you can replace them with Blue Spheres. Ability nodes cannot be cleared.
Nodes come in different types and degrees. All the types are described above in the red sphere section. Each different kind of node has different degrees as well. For
example, strength nodes can raise strength by 1, 2, 3, or 4 points. Whenever a new stat node is created with Blue Spheres, they are always 4 points. This is what I
described under 'Example', above. A player can be positioned on one node at a time, but can activate not only the node that they are on, but any adjacent nodes as
well.
Here's a list with all the Symbols on the Sphere grid and which Node they resemble:
