Overdrives

During battle and in the status menu of the characters, you'll see a bar beneath your characters' HP and MP. This is the Overdrive Gauge. The speed at which this gauge fills varies from battle to battle. However, once it's full, you can use the characters' Overdrive attacks! You'll see the word 'Overdrive' appear above the main attacking menu of your characters. If you press left with the directional button, you'll get to the Overdrives menu of that character.

Initially, your character's Overdrive Gauge is filled whenever the enemy attacks the character in question. But there are various other Overdrive Modes which your fighters can learn over time. Of course, you can assign them to each character in the Overdrive sub-menu.

Overdrive Modes

Whenever a character has experienced specific battle situations several times, a new Overdrive Mode is learned automatically. For example, Yuna will learn the Healer Mode once she has restored the HP of her comrades 60 times. Refer to the following table to find out which Overdrive Modes there are and which learning conditions there are. when your characters will learn them.

Mode	Learning Condition
Ally	It's the character's turn
Avenger	An ally is KO'd by an enemy attack
Comrade	Comrades suffer damage inflicted by opponents
Coward	The character flies the battlefield
Dancer	The character evades the opponent's attacks (Miss)
Daredevil	The character battles with less than 50% of his HP
Healer	The character restores his comrades' HP
Hero	The character defeats a powerful opponent (i.e. an opponent with over 10.000 HP*)
Loner	The character is battling alone and it's his turn
Rook	The character uses status effects to prevent or reduce damage inflicted by an opponent
Slayer	The character defeats an opponent (*)
Stoic	The character loses HP through an opponent's attack (default setting)
Sufferer	The character is suffering a status effect inflicted by an opponent and it's his turn
Tactician	The character inflicts a negative status effect on an opponent
Victim	The character suffers a status effect due to an opponent's attack
Victor	The party emerges victorious from battle
Warrior	The character inflicts damage on an opponent (but not by using an item or Overdrive)
* The character must deal the final blow
