Final Fantasy X
Father...give me strength.
Quote by: Yuna, when a battle starts
The Dark Aeons
Once Yuna and her Guardians escaped from Bevelle, they were branded as traitors of Yevon and orders were given to stop her pilgrimage and arrest them, at all costs.
Before you fight Lady Yunalesca in Zanarkand Ruins, Dark Ixion, Dark Shiva and Dark Yojimbo become available. The other Dark Aeons will become available after gaining
control of the Airship. Some of the Dark Aeons will block the entrance to previously friendly locations, while others merely wander in inconspicuous locations, hoping
you would come across their path. It only makes sense to battle them if you have worked hard on the development of your characters, since the battles aren't easy! All
of the Dark Aeons have very high amount of HP, with Anima taking the honors with 8 Million HP! Not only that, they also have very high, even close to maximum stats
and are immune to all status effects. However, in return, you'll get a lot of AP after battle and they all drop weapons and armor with Break Damage Limit and Break HP
Limit along with other high-level Auto-Abilities such as the great Ribbon, which provides protection against all status effects even in cases where Abilities such as
Stoneproof and Deathproof prove useless. And adding the Ribbon using Customize, you'll need 99 of the rare Dark Matters to generate this Ability. Therefore, you may
find it worth your while to train your party to the point where you can defeat the Dark Aeons. If you really want the Ribbon, you can always reload your saved game
and fight the Aeon again until you obtain this Ability. Yojimbo isn't really hard to defeat if you get the hang of it, and you can defeat more than once, allowing you
to fill up your stock with many excellent weapons and armor!
Some of the Dark Aeon's Abilities are non-elemental, such as Dark Shiva's Diamond Dust and Dark Ixion's Thundaja. For example, when you have Shiva
summoned and Dark Shiva is about to use Diamond Dust, Shiva will not gain any HP.
The following table is information that concerns all Dark Aeons and Penance. Abbreviations of these status effects will be explained in the
Enemy Explain section.

Besaid Village - Village Entrance |
Dark Valefor is the weakest Dark Aeon. When you try to enter the village of Besaid, a Summoner unexpectedly calls upon Dark
Valefor. And battle starts.
One of two of your characters should have Break HP Limit, Auto-Haste and if possible Auto-Phoenix or just keep casting Auto-Life as soon as possible on that
character. Break Damage Limit is also strongly recommended. For that, simply follow the quest to obtain at least one or two Legendary Weapons. Refer to the
Legendary Weapons section for more info on this. Or if you want to use Customize, you need 30 Wings to Discovery. You
can easily win 30 of these items by winning the Chocobo Race in Remiem Temple. Refer to the section of Remiem Temple for
more info on the Chocobo Race. Also, to make the battle easier, have the attributes of your characters into at least three digits (except Luck). Start off your
battle by casting Hastega on your heroes.
Dark Valefor uses Energy Ray a lot as one of his main attacks, so not as his Overdrive. Energy Ray inflicts massive damage on the three characters. It
helps if you cast Auto-Life and Shell in time to reduce the damage and get revived instantly if one or more of your character's is KO'd. Try to intercept
Valefor's Overdrive by sending an Aeon into battle, because you're not likely to survive it. Of course, this tactic works against other Dark Aeons too. Keep
attacking Dark Valefor, especially with Tidus and Wakka's Overdrives. Set the Overdrive Mode to Stoic so you'll have full use of your Overdrives. Dark Valefor
won't last long. |

Sanubia Desert - West |
At the Entrance of the Al Bhed Home, you'll find a man asking you if you want to help find his daughter. Choose yes and he'll
ask you to look by the cliff. Dark Ifrit is waiting here for you.
Dark Ifrit counters all attacks and his own attacks will inflict massive damage, as well as having a Delay effect. Therefore it's recommended you either have
Auto-Haste or keep casting Hastega on your characters to keep their speed up. Also, Auto-Phoenix or Auto-Life will prove usefully here. And take in mind that
Ifrit is a Fire elemental creature, so Fireproof or Fire Eater would mean a lot here. Because if you have the Fire Eater Auto-Ability, his Special attack
Meteor Strike will heal you instead of damaging your characters. Protect could use, that's up to you.
His Overdrive is non-elemental and cannot be countered by using Fire protection. Shield yourself by sacrificing an Aeon. It would also help if one or more of
your characters have the Break Damage Limit, especially if you're using Tidus' Blitz Ace Overdrive and Wakka's Attack Reels Overdrive. Be sure to recast
Auto-Life once a character is KO'd. |

Thunder Plains - North - Near Save Sphere |
Talk to the soldier under the lightning rod tower, which lies North of the Travel Agency. He'll run off after you talked to
him and calls a Summoner who will then summon Dark Ixion.
Again, make sure you cast Hastega and Auto-Life on your characters. And of course, any Auto-Abilities like Auto-Haste and Auto-Phoenix would help if you have
them. Dark Ixion uses immensely powerful Lightning-type attacks, but you will not be able to counter them with Magic Counter. So the Auto-Ability Lightning
Eater will be useful, as it protects you from Thundaja, but unfortunately not from his Special attack Aerospark. Dark Ixion will counter each attack with one
of his own, adding the Sleep Status Effect. Even though you can use Dispel to lift the Full Break effect, there's only one way of preventing Full Break: with
the Ribbon. Don't use your Overdrives just yet, unless you're sure you'll have your Gauges filled up quickly. Finish Dark Ixion with powerful doublecasted
magical attacks, such as Flare, Ultima and Holy.
After you've defeated Dark Ixion, you'll find yourself engaged in another battle with him again almost immediately. Luckily, there's a Save Sphere nearby, so
save if you please. Use the same tactic as before, cast Hastega and Auto-Life once the battle has started. Now, Dark Ixion has lost the Ability to Counter
attacks. However, his attacks now cast Confuse and Full Break. Use your Overdrives and powerful doublecasted magical attacks again and summon an Aeon once Dark
Ixion's Overdrive Gauge is filled up. This should do the trick! |

Macalania Temple - Entrance |
If you try to enter Macalania Temple, one of the Guado Guards will block your path and will them summon upon the incredibly
fast Aeon, Dark Shiva.
Because Dark Shiva is so quick in battle, you'll need a high Agility figure. Also, a high Defence figure would really help, otherwise she'll knock you out of
action too fast. Cast Hastega and Auto-Life on your characters again and use Aim and Quick Hit to to able to attack Dark Shiva. Her attacks dispels all
positive status effects, as well as casting Berserk and Confusion. Her Heavenly Strike attack has the Death effect, which even penetrates your Ribbon's
protection. And her Overdrive will inflict massive damage on all three characters. As soon as she has filled up her Overdrive, sacrifice an Aeon to survive
the attack.
If you manage to win the battle, numerous Guado Guardians will spill out of the temple. Leave Macalania - Road for a short while and then you can return. Then
you can pick up some nice items from within the Chamber of the Fayth, but you'll have the rebuild the bridge again. Take a look at the Temple section for more
info (***Coming soon!!) on the Cloister of Trails. |

Zanarkand Dome - The Beyond |
You'll find Dark Bahamut waiting for you in Zanarkand Dome - the Beyond. This is where you fought Lady Yunalesca before. Just
walk up to him to start the battle.
After Dark Shiva, you'll now find that the difficulty level increases again significantly. This makes the battle long and hard, but it's worth it! Before
facing Dark Bahamut, it might be a good idea to battle Dark Yojimbo, since he isn't that hard and it's a good way of raising your attributes and gaining more
powerful weapons and armour. Also, use the Monster Arena to increase the attributes of your characters and try to get some of them up to the maximum of 255.
Refer to the Monster Arena section for more info. However high your Accuracy figures are, some hits will miss anyway. You
can use Aim and Quick Hit to reduce the number of misses.
Cast Hastega and Auto-Life on your characters and you'll find Protect a worthy spell too. Make sure you recast Auto-Life once a character has been revived
automatically by the spell, else you're doomed. Once Dark Bahamut's Overdrive Gauge has increased for the fifth time, the Dark Aeon will unleash Impulse, which
will cast Petrification, Slow, Full Break and Delay. Your armour won't protect you from these status attacks. However, if you have the Auto-Ability Auto-Haste,
it can prevent Slow. Now, after the Impulse attack, it will be followed by his Overdrive Mega Flare. Have enough HP and Auto-Life or just summon an Aeon to
survive this attack. He'll use the Impulse attack and Mega Flare one after the other. The result is that, by casting Auto-Life after Dark Bahamut's Impulse,
you can look forward to being scorched by Mega Flare! Anyway, it's going to be a long and hard battle and you'll need a lot of patience, but once you win,
you'll be glad because it's quite a challenge and you did it! |

Cavern of the Stolen Fayth - Near Save Sphere |
You will find Dark Yojimbo way at the back of the Cavern of the Stolen Fayth. The easiest way to get there is just to step on
the teleport panel at the beginning of the cave and transport yourself to the back of the cave. When you try to walk back, a Summoner will block your path.
This is the fastest way, but maybe not the best way. Why? Simply because then you can only save outside the cave and you'd have to walk back inside and go to
the back of the cavern if you have to try the battle again. If you really don't want to fight, you could also equip armour like Peaceful Shield (Tidus) or
Peaceful Bracer (Auron), because these have the 'No Encounters' Ability. If you walk to the back of the cave, you'll eventually come across a Save Sphere, just
before the back end of the cave. Save, then walk forward a few steps, then backtrack. A Summoner will block your path and he'll call upon Dark Yojimbo.
Dark Yojimbo's initial attack is always an Ambush. So at least one of your characters should be equipped with a weapon that contains the 'First Strike' Ability
to ensure that you get the first turn. Remember that you can always switch to a better weapon during the fight. How? Refer to the
Battle System section for more info. If you don't have the first turn, you may be unlucky enough to run staight into a
Wakizashi attack, which easily could do 99.999 damage on all of your characters. Set your Overdrive Modes to Stoic, so you can re-use your Overdrives.
Then cast Hastega and Auto-Life as soon as possible and recast the Auto-Life if necessary. If he lets his dog, Daigoro, attack, it will inflict Petrification
on a character. This cannot be shielded by Stoneproof, you'll only find protection against that with the Ribbon. The Zanmato Overdrive has the same effect as
Wakizashi on its full power and also dispels any protection. This means that even if you have the Auto-Life on your characters, it will mean an instant death,
so you'll have no choose but sacrificing an Aeon. Attack Dark Yojimbo with Quick Hit or doublecasted Ultima, Flare or Holy. Also, Overdrives works well.
After your victory, Dark Yojimbo's Summoner will retreat towards the exit. Follow him in order to start the next battle. Now, you don't have to worry about
being ambushed. You can even save your game before the second battle. However, if you save your game and then reload that saved game, the battle will start
again with the first encounter. This also means that you can keep defeating Dark Yojimbo until you have obtained all the equipment you need. This will end
once you've defeated him five times in a row. Yojimbo actually isn't that hard once you've got good stats. Especially if you've got the Auto-Haste and/or
Auto-Phoenix Abilities, even better if you have the Ribbon, and you keep to your strategy: make sure the characters always have Haste and Auto-Life and cure
any who becomes petrified as soon as possible. This way, you can easily obtain the great weapons and armour Dark Yojimbo leaves behind. If you want to fight
him more than five times... Simply save your game, board the Airship and return to the Cavern. For re-fighting Yojimbo, you don't have to reload your saved
game though, but that way, after 5 times, you won't be able to fight him again. If you have defeated Yojimbo at the entrance, you cannot fight him another
time. |

Mt. Gagazet - Mountain Gate |
If you go to the Mountain Gate of Mt. Gagazet, you won't see Dark Anima here. You'd have to do a little sub-quest in order for
Anima to appear. Go to the Mountain Cave and complete the first trial. Remember Wakka throwing his Blitzball at a target? Do this again with the tougher
conditions. Try to hit the core with the Blitzball and remember that his ball takes some time to reach the target, so hit just before the opening comes up.
Once you've completed this, Dark Anima will be waiting for you at the Mountain Gate.
Her attacks cause Poison, Stone, Zombie and Curse. Pain will cause instant Death and Mega-Gravition will engender various effects plus damage on all characters
amounting to 7/16 of their maximum HP. In order to have any chance against her, you'll have to power up your characters' attributes to the maximum. Even then,
you'll still have to use Aim a few times and Quick Hit, to be able to attack her physically. As usual, cast Hastega and Auto-Life on your characters. Especially
now, weapons with the Ribbon and Auto-Haste and maybe even Auto-Phoenix Abilities are extremely useful! Make sure you don't leave a character without Auto
Resurrection! Summon an Aeon once her Overdrive is full. This is going to be a long, very long and hard battle. You probably have to load your game a few times
before you are able to beat her. |

Mushroom Rock Road - To the South of the Turning Leading to the Valley |
From the point where the Mi'ihen Highroad turns into the Mushroom Rock Road, go north and you'll see two Summoners standing
there. Talk to them to start the battle between you and the three immense powerful and fast Aeons, the Magus Sisters. It is possible, however, to run from them
and beat them one by one. But let's assume you are fighting against all three of them.
Concentrate your actions on one sister before going for another. Start with Dark Mindy, since she uses Passado (Instant Death) and because she has the lowest
HP. One of the most important things to remember is that the three sisters will start with a full Overdrive Gauge, meaning they will unleash their deadly Delta
Attack. Check how many actions you have before the sisters get their attack and make sure Yuna is not in your party at the beginning of the fight or make sure
Rikku and Tidus have a higher Speed level, meaning your Agility stats. Cast Hastega (or have Auto-Haste on all characters, if only one or two have Auto-Haste,
cast Haste on the remaining character or Hastega if you need Haste on two characters) on your characters and check the CTB window again. Plan your actions
carefully and see how many attacks you have before the sisters' attack. If possible, cast Auto-Life on all characters (or have Auto-Phoenix to your disposal).
Then make sure Yuna gets a turn before the sisters does and let her Summon an Aeon. Call upon Anima and let her do her Overdrive Oblivion or call upon your own
Magus Sisters to do their Delta Attack, that's up to you. I prefer Anima, since you might need the Magus Sisters later (they have a better chance in fighting
them because they're not fighting the sisters alone and one of them might have a chance to revive the other before they're all KO'd) and after the Dark Magus
Sisters' Delta Attack, none of your characters or Aeons will survive.
Okay, that's for the beginning. Now, concentrate on Dark Mindy. Use your Overdrives, preferably Tidus' Blitz Ace and Wakka's Attack Reels, both performed
perfectly. You'll be relieved once Dark Mindy is dead, so you know they cannot perform their Delta Attack again, nor can Dark Mindy perform her Passado. Now
concentrate on Dark Sandy. Her Razzia attack will dispel Auto-Life and reduce your Defence figure to zero. Dark Cindy's normal attack will lift any protection,
while her Camisade attack will reduce your Defence figure to zero. If only one of the sisters' Overdrive Gauges is full, she will be unable to unleash a Delta
Attack, but instead, she will use Dark Anima's Mega-Graviton. Since it's hard to predict what the sisters do next, make sure you always have your characters
protected by Auto-Life.
It will really help if your Luck levels are over 120. Plus, make sure your characters have around 30.000 HP. If you have a "good relationship" with
Yojimbo (to know what it means, refer to Yojimbo's Aeons section), and you have enough money, you can hope that he'll
use Zanmato. But that's not very sporting... |

The Airship |
Once you have defeated all of the Dark Aeons, the ultimate opponent will appear: Penance. You can simply select this creature
as the Airship's next flight destination. Unless you feel like relying on Yojimbo, this battle will be very, very hard! You'll need Luck levels of over 120
and HP levels of over 40.000. Also, your other attributes should be at the maximum of 255.
It is vital to deal with Penance's arms to prevent him from using Judgement Day. Once you've disposed of the arms, you'll have a brief moment in which you must
deal with the torso. As usual, first cast Hastega and Auto-Life on all characters. If you happen to have armour with the Ribbon, Auto-Haste, Auto-Phoenix,
Auto-Regen, Curseproof to your disposel, now's the time to equip them! Also, make sure you have the Legendary Weapons. Refer to the
Legendary Weapons section for more info on those weapons. Rikku's Overdrive Hyper Mighty G (combine a Lunar and Light
Curtain), Wakka's Attack Reels and Tidus' Blitz Ace very useful when you're dealing with the arms. Dealing with the torso, use strong magic like Ultima, Holy
and Flare, combined with Doublecast. Also, make a good use of the Aeons' Overdrives, especially Anima's and the Magus Sisters' Overdrives. The right arm will
cast Mighty Guard on all the parts after a few turns so be ready to use Dispel or Purifying Salt to remove it. But remember that the arms regenerate so you'll
have to kill it again.
If you have a bit of breathing space, use a Healing Water to restore all HP of your characters, use Quick Hit to attack Penance's torso or use Twin or Three
Stars to minimize MP consumption. |
