What's the matter, Zell? Swatting flies? Tonberry King On this page, you can see all of the details about the side quest getting Tonberry King in the Centra Ruins. First let us look at a table with this side quest's details. Side Quest Details
The Centra Ruins: Getting the GF Tonberry King Go to the Centra Plains and you'll see a large tower. This is the home of the Guardian Force Odin, but you will also be albe to get the GF Tonberry King here. This task is very hard and will take up a lot of time. Why? Mainly because you need to fight 18 to 22 high-to-fight Tonberry's before the Tonberry King will appear. Let us first on preparations of the battles! Preparing for many Battles Stock up on Phoenix Downs and Hi-Potions! Then make sure that at least one character has the Item Command available. Also, have one character Junctioned with Diablos at 100% compatibility with the GF. This way, you can count on Diablos to arrive quickly when summoned in battles. Otherwise, Junction it to a character with the highest compatibility. How to get a high compatibility? Just fight battles on the Centra Plains and keep summoning Diablos with one character, compatibility will raise by 20 points every time it is summoned. So if your compatibility is 0, you need to fight 5 battles. Also SAVE the game on the plains, especially if you just did the Odin quest. Tonberry King Quest Near the entrance of the Centra Ruins (in the circle area), you will find a lot of Tonberry's. You need to fight around 18 to 22 Tonberry's, which will lure out the Tonberry King. If you haven't fought these creatures before, lemme tell you, they're nasty little ones! They have a lot of HP (average of 20.000 HP each) and they can kill a character with a single blow. Tonberry's also have a powerful random counterattack known as Everyone's Grudge. This will cause over 2000 points of damage to a single character. Also, you will only receive 1 AP and NO EXP for defeating a single Tonberry!
Have one character summon Diablos repeatedly time after time. This will also limit the Tonberry of using his counterattacks. Have another character cast Demi if you have it, which will reduce a Tonberry's HP by one fourth. A third should always be ready to heal wounded or fallen allies. The Tonberry won't do anything at the beginning, once it's his turn, it'll take a step closer to your party. This is the best time to deal massive damage. Once in close range, it'll begin using the Chef's Knife, which does around 4000 points of damage. If he gets too close, he'll start unloading on it with all three characters. It helps a great deal to caste Haste on the character who summons Diablos so you can summon it as quickly as possible. Limit Breaks might be useful, but be careful since you're standing weak and can easily be killed.
After defeating enough Tonberry's, the Tonberry King will appear immediately after the last battle with the Tonberry! You won't exit the battle so you won't have time to heal your characters. So I'd advise you to count your battles and when you reach the 18th battle, make sure that your characters won't stand weak (or KO'd) at the end of a battle, as the Tonberry King might appear. The Tonberry King will replace the fallen Tonberry and the battle starts. Tonberry King: The Battle Don't spend any efforts on summoning Diablos, as Tonberry King is immune to Diablos' attack. Start using every party member's best GF and Boost them all as much as possible. I said before that the Tonberry's had a lot of HP, so one guess what Tonberry King has...A WHOLE LOT OF HP! This battle can take as long as half an hour.
Tonberry King's attacks are just as powerful as the attacks of the small Tonberry's, but he's a lot faster. You can counter this advantage by casting Haste on everyone, and you might find Protect useful to cut down the damage. Tonberry King holds the Full-Life and Curaga spells, so healing is easy. You can stock those spells, but make sure your characters are still fully healed! It's advised to leave one character ready for healing, but have another ready to take over this role when that character has fallen down.
If you find the battle too hard, you may need to train a bit more to get a little stronger. Also, it may be a good idea to have higher compatibility's with other GF's and the other characters. Also, it may be a good idea to keep two characters with near 1000 compatibility with two GF's. How? Get 1000 compatibility with Diablos as I explained above, then select another GF and summon it two times. The compatibility with Diablos will drop, so summon him again. Repeat this until you're near 1000 compatibility with these two GF's. During your battles with the Tonberry's, summon the other GF from time to time. It may take longer to defeat the little Tonberry's, but once the Boss Battle starts, you'll have around 1000 compatibility with another GF and after a few summons, you have full compatibility, which will help a lot during this battle! |
