Obel Lake Quest
Just north of Timber you can find Obel Lake. There's a small peninsula in the center of the lake where you can find hidden options if you search the edge of the
peninsula. The options are:
Use the second option several times to encounter a strange shadow-like creature in the water. Speak with the creature and it will ask you to do it a favor by finding
its friend Mr. Monkey. The only clues the creature of Obel Lake gives you are:
- "Mr. Monkey may have hopped a train toward Dollet."
- "Mr. Monkey enjoys hanging out in forests."
Head for Dollet and search the forest to the west of the city. During your search, you should eventually encounter Mr. Monkey. After finding him, return
to Obel Lake and talk to the creature again. It will tell you several cryptic clues: |
 |
|
* |
"Take a break at the railroad bridge." |
|
* |
"At the beach in Balamb, something special washes ashore at times." |
|
* |
"Take some time off at Eldbeak Peninsula." |
|
* |
"You'll find something on an island east of Timber, too." |
|
* |
"There's also something on top of a mountain with a lake and cavern." |
|
* |
"Back in the day, south of here, there used to be a small but beautiful village surrounded by deep forests. Everyone lived a happy life
there." |
|

"Mr. Monkey had a rock like this I think..." |
Four Rocks
The creature is trying to say that you must visit all of these locations to find some items. Let's look for four rocks in four locations first.
 |
Rock 1: "Mr. Monkey had a rock like this I think..."
You won't get the clue for this one until you've found at least one other rock. Stand at Obel Lake and throw rocks until you get the message: "The rock
skipped many, many times." This make take many tries before the message will appear, as it will appear at random. New head for the forest near Dollet to
find Mr. Monkey. Throw rocks at him until he throws a rock back at you with the inscription "U R H A E O". |
|
|
 |
Rock 2: "You'll find something on an island east of Timber, too."
The island you are looking for is the one on the north side of the railroad bridge, known as a part of Many Beach. Search the ground to find a small rock with
the inscription "R E A I D R". |
|
|
 |
Rock 3: "At the beach in Balamb, something special washes ashore at times."
There are a lot of rocks on the beach just south of Balamb. Keep searching to eventually find the right one. You will now find the inscription
"S T S L R M". |
|
|
 |
Rock 4: "There's also something on top of a mountain with a lake and cavern."
In order to find this rock, you must have the Ragnarok. The mountain the clue is referring to is Monterosa Plateau, northwest of Timber. Search the ground
until you've found a bird warming an egg directly above a small cavern with a waterfall in the side of the plateau. Fight off the birds to find a small rock
inscribed with the letters "E A S N P D". |
After you've obtained all of the four rocks, return to Obel Lake and speak with the creature again. The rocks will be properly lined up now for you to decipher
the message. Read from top to bottom, starting on the right side and working toward the left. You will see the following message:
"Mordred Plains has Treasure."
Mordred Plains
Head to Mordred Plains, which is the large plain north of Esthar and explore the area while searching the ground. You will discover four rocks, each with a
human face. Every one of these rocks will tell you something different, but you only need to listen to one. The red-faced rock is a liar, so do exactly the
opposite of what is says. This will eventually lead you to the treasure. When you search a spot and the red-faced rock says "The treasure is not here",
you know you've found it. Search a second time to discover a Three Stars, which can be used to teach a GF the Expendx3-1 ability. |
 |
Eldbeak Peninsula
 |
Finally, head to Eldbeak Peninsula, which is on the continent north of Balamb: "Take some time off at Eldbeak Peninsula." Search the tip of the
peninsula to find a stone pillar with the inscription: "TRETIMEASUREATMINOFFDEISLE".
What it means? Well, if you look at the clue, you must take some TIME OFF at Eldbeak Peninsula. So take these two words out of the big word and you'll get:
"TREASUREATMINDEISLE". Now, split the words to get: "Treasure at Minde Isle." Minde Island is a small island located south of Esthar. Search
the island to find a Luck-J Scroll. |
|
"Back in the day, south of here, there used to be a small but beautiful village surrounded by deep forests. Everyone
lived a happy life."
This is referring to a weird shaped forest east of Edea's House with a sort of round clearing in the middle containing a grassy area. If you land here and go
into the grassy part, Squall will mention that there is a lot of rubble around. That is all that you can do regarding to this clue.

|
"Take a break at the railroad bridge."
This clue is a hint at the many hidden Draw Points that can be found on railroad bridges.
