Useful Commands

Refer to the following table to learn some useful commands you should know. Use them during your adventure of Final Fantasy VIII.

Command	Action
Run from Battle	Press and hold + until the party runs or you see a message saying that you cannot run away.
Soft Reset	Pause the game and press and hold + + + + SELECT + START. The game will fade and return to the title screen. All unsaved progress will be lost.
Discard Magic	In the Magic Menu inside the Man Menu, select the use option and highlight a spell, then press to discard the highlighted magic.
Removing Juctioned Magic	In the Juction screen, highlight a Juctioned magic and press .
Remove Battle Displays	During battle, hold SELECT to make all of the battle displays boxes disappear. When you release the button, the boxes will reappear.
Battle Menu's	Turn on extra text boxes to assist with targeting by pressing during battle. Pressing a second time turns off the extra boxes.
View Statuses	In battle when you attempt to remove abnormal status effect using magic, items, or abilities a side box appears showing one of the abnormal status effects on the character. You can view the other abnormal effects by pressing , which causes the window to cycle through the abnormal statuses.
Auto Polot for Ragnarok	While riding in the Ragnarok, open the large World Map and highlight your destination. Press and choose "Yes" and the Ragnarok will pilot itself. You may cancel the auto pilot option by pressing .
Automatic Attack & Draw	In the Configuration Menu, set the Cursor option to Memory. During battle, you can then repeat the action you last took with a character by simply holding down . This is extremely useful when stocking up on magic.
Scan Camera Controls	After using Scan magic, you will see a model of the enemy you targeted. You may manipulate the model using the following commands: Rotate Model Directional Pad or Analog Stick. Not all Models rotate. Zoom Hold or and use the Directional Pad or Analog Stick. Reset Press and simultaneously.
