Final Fantasy VIII
That is sooo vague!
Quote by: Selphie, After hearing that her SeeD deployment contract lasts "until Timber achieves independence."
Tips & Tricks
On this page, you'll find some useful tips and tricks for Final Fantasy VIII. I am sure there are a whole lot more of these things to be
found in the game. I'd like to expand this list, so if you have anything to add, even if you're not sure if it's good enough, please send
an e-mail to info@bar2ayunie.com and your will be credited for it! Thanks in advance!
Name |
Description |
Quick AP |
The easiest way to earn AP quickly is defeating strong enemies of course. But the best location for this, is in the
Kashkabald desert or on Cactuar's Island. Killing a single Cactuar will earn you 20 AP! |
Quick AP 2 |
This tip is for the Dollet Field Exam. Have Quezacotl's compatibility near 1000 and make sure it has learned SumMag
+ 10%, 20% and 30% and Boost. You can gain 400 AP by fighting X-ATM092 eight times and depleting its HP during every battle.. Bear in mind
that you'll loose some points on your SeeD Rank. |
No Random Encounters |
There are a few ways to travel without having to worry about battling: rent a car (cost is 3500 Gil + fuel), walk on train
tracks or roads, ride a Chocobo or simply by using Diablos' No Encounters ability (Enc-None - cost 100 AP). Don't travel too long without this
ability as you won't get stronger, which you may need for the upcoming events! |
Quick EXP |
The best way to gain Exp fast is fighting on the Island Closest to Heaven or the Island Closest to Hell, on each side of the
world. You'll find extremely powerful enemies, who will reward you with a lot of Exp when defeated. One of the best ways of defeating them is using
Quistis' Blue Magic Limit Break Degenerator, which removes the enemy out of battle or let Odin do the work for
you. These islands are also covered with many many Draw Points. |
Quick EXP 2 |
Equip one character with Auto-Haste, Initiative, and Junction 100 Pain spells to attack. He or she will go first, and
blind/poison/silence the enemy (works good on Behemoths). Have another character cast Zombie and have the third character use the Revive ability on
the undead enemy to kill it. Behemoths cannot see to counter attack, and Silence keeps them from using their high-level magic. In all Final Fantasy
games, undead monsters are injured by curative magic, and killed by Life spells, Phoenix Downs, etc. Use this technique when fighting the Behemoths
in the Deep Sea Research Center on the south-western-most corner of the world map to accumulate experience and build your characters. This only works
on monsters that are susceptible to Death magic. Bosses are immune to this trick, as are Ruby Dragons and Imps. Those opponents must be killed by
traditional means; however the Diablos summon kills most Imps in one hit.

Free Potions |
Go to Timber with either Rinoa or Quistis in your party. Speak to the man on the bridge that overlooks the railroad tracks. Speak
with him (the first time you need to speak to him a few times) to get a free potion. You can repeat this as many times as you want. If you don't see
him straight away, leave the area and go back in until you do see him. |
Low Level Advantages |
Enemies level up just as you do, so if you keep your level low, but you make sure you have good magic, you can easily defeat them.
Draw high level magic when your level is low to increase your status. |
Easy HP restorations |
As soon as you have Status-Attack-Junction, get 100 Drains and junction them to whoever has the ability. Depending on how much damage
you do, you will be healed if you hit the opponent! |
Increasing Stats |
You can increase all your stats by using GF Eden's Devour ability by eating the following.
Hp: Rinoa in Adel + 10 HP, Ruby Dragon + 10 HP
Str: T-Rexaur + 1 Str
Vit: Adamantoise + 1 Vit
Mag: Behemoth + 1 Mag
Spr: Malboro + 1 Spr
Spd: Pu Pu + 1 Spd
If you eat a Cactuar your health is fully replenished.
The following trick requires Doomtrain, Eden and Tonberry. You also need Doomtrains ability Forbid Med-RF, Edens ability GFAbl Med-RF, and Tonberrys Familiar
and Call Shop abilities. You also need to have been to all of Esthers Shops. Go to Esther Pet Shop in the Call Shop ability, then buy either Giant's Rings,
Power Wrists, Force Armlets, or Hypno Crowns. Refine them with GFAbl Med-RF into their next form:
10 Giant's Rings to 1 Gaea's Ring
10 Power Wrists to 1 Hyper Wrist
10 Force Armlets to 1 Magic Armlet
10 Hypno Crowns to 1 Royal Crown
Then, use the Forbid Med-RF to turn them into status-ups:
1 Gaea's Ring to 1 HP Up
10 Hyper Wrists to 1 Str Up
10 Magic Armlets to 1 Spr Up
10 Royal Crowns to 1 Mag Up
It takes 150 000 000 gil just to get 100 of the status ups, each. Although this will take a long time, is shorter to do it this way then to eat monsters. You
can also Refine Vit Ups by buying Vit-J Scrolls and using the GFAbl Med-RF to Refine 10 into 1 Orihalcan, then Refine 10 of those into 1 Adamantine, then use
Forbid Med-RF to turn 5 of those into 1 Vit Up. You also can Refine Spd Ups by fighting a lot of Cactuars on Cactuar Island, and getting 100 Cactus Thorns then
Refine them with GFAbl Med-RF to 1 Hundred Needles then Refine that using Forbid Med-RF, into 1 Spd Up.

Easy Gil |
Make sure you have the Recov Med-RF (GF Carbuncle). The trick works on Disc 3. Go to Esthar and fight in the region, search for enemies
called Mesmerize and after defeat they'll drop Mesmerize Blades. Get 100 of thoseand use the Recov Med-RF to get 200 Mega Potions. You can sell these for
1.000.000 Gil! If you have the Mug ability (GF Diablos), it'll be easier. |
9999 HP |
Get around level 43 or higher and make sure you get 100 Curaga or 100 Full-Life. Junction these to HP. It can also help to have a GF with
the HP-J and HP + 80%. You should have 9999 HP! |
Zell's Room |
When Balamb Town is invaded by Galbadia, go to the Inn. Once you cannot get in, go to Zell's house and go to his room. He will let you in
this time (and any other time after you cleared out Balamb). |
Ending Scene |
Watch all of the credits after the game is completed to see something extra: a scene with Squall and Rinoa! |
Moving in Balamg Garden |
In Balamb Garden, go to the Directory and select a location, confirm it and you'll be taken to the hallway in front of the area immediately!
This only works in the beginning of the game. |
Armageddon Fist |
To use Zell's Armageddon Fist, simply use his two weakest moves (Punch Rush and Booya) repeatedly. It only takes fractions of seconds to do
each move, and with good stats, each move does around 5000 HP damage. In four seconds you can do each move five times which is 50,000 damage. With 11 seconds,
you can do over 150,000 damage. After casting Meltdown, Aura, and using only one Holy-War Omega Weapon can be defeated with 15 hits of Armageddon Fist only.
Note: The strength stat should be at 255 for best results.

Lunch Lady's Kid |
Talk to the Lunch Lady (left one) in Garden Cafeteria and she'll tell you about her son who went out on his own. After the Boss Fight in FH
(with BGH251F2), you can meet the boy. First go back to the top of the elevator to talk to Irvine, then return to the area where you fought the Boss and talk to
the boy in yellow. If you ask if he is the Lunch Lady's son he will board the Garden. |
Laguna Magazines |
You can read the Timber Maniacs you find in the 2nd floor classroom in Garden after Selphie is reunited with the party. Just go to the Garden
Festival page and then select Sir Laguna's Page. |
