Status Effects

During battle, there are many abnormal status effects that can be afflicted on your party and on the enemy. Refer to the table below to find out what Status Effect there are in Final Fantasy VIII, what their symptoms are and more importantly, how to cure them.

Status Effect	Symptom	Cure
Silence	Victim can no longer use magic or summon GF's.	Echo Screen (item) or Esuna (Magic)
Confusion	Victim loses all sense of reality and begins randomly attacking any target, even itself.	Remedy (item) or Esuna (Magic)
Poison	Victim loses Hit Points every time it performs an action during battle	Antidote (item) or Esuna (Magic)
Berserk	Victim loses total control and goes into a mad rage; character can only use physical attacks and cannot pick targets. Attack strength and player speed is increased slightly.	Remedy (item) or Esuna (Magic)
Slow	Victim's speed is cut in half.	Remedy (item), Haste (Magic) or Esuna (Magic)
Blind	Victim loses sight, and hit rate is drastically reduced.	Eye Drops (item) or Esuna (Magic)
Slow Death	A counter appear over the victim's head. If it reaches zero before the end of battle, the character is knocked out.	Dispel (Magic)
Petrify	Victim is turned to stone.	Soft (item) or Esuna (Magic)
Zombie	Victim becomes an undead creature.	Holy Water (item) or Esuna (Magic)
Slow Petirfy	A counter appears over the victim's head. If it reaches zero before the end of the battle, the character is petrified.	Soft (item) or Esuna (Magic)
Sleep	Victim is put to sleep and cannot act; Hit Points are not restored.	Esuna (Magic)
Curse	Victim cannot use Limit Breaks.	Holy Water (item) or Esuna (Magic)
Defence Cut	Victim receives double damage from physical attacks.	Esuna (Magic)
